I’ve had the opportunity to do a business visit to Albania. One of the smallest and poorest countries in Europe.
I traveled from Norway via Istanbul. The Istanbul-airport was very busy and I didn’t understand much of the language. Anyway, I urged for a beer and found a place where I could pay with card. And the beer was tasty! – I can really recommend Efes.
It was a long day. I started from Oslo – Norway Sunday at 11 am and arrived Durrës in Albania 11:30 pm. It’s just a 30 min drive from Tirana – the capitol of Albania. So, I literally dived into the bed and visited dreamland for some hours. It was all dark when i arrived, so a peek out told me that it was a sunny morning and the hotel was situated close the seafront.
City of contrasts
The seafront seemed to be quite modern. But looking closer one could see that people had to use what’s available to earn their living.
Obviously Durrës is or has been a tourist area with beaches, restaurants and hotels along the seafront. Maybe it was low season or bad times; Abandoned pedaling boats – originally for tourists – was an important tool for the fishermen.
But, I must say it was a beautiful view to watch the fishermen doing their daily routine under the blue sky on the blue ocean.
